Wendie Recommends ...

I used to own a self-help bookstore that specialized in books and products for healing practitioners.  I just can't break the habit of buying books!  (You should see my home library!)

When I find a great product or book, I just want to share it with someone.  So, here is a list of cool stuff that can help you in your healing practice.  Some are free.  Some are low-cost.  And some you just really ought to know about.

Be sure to let me know if you find something you like.  If you think there's something that ought to be included in this list, tell me!

Stuff Every Regression Hypnotherapist Needs to Know ...

Skin Deep

Clients will come to you for help when all the creams, lotions and medication have failed to resolve their persistent eczema, stubborn warts, psoriasis or other distressing skill ailments.

This is exactly what Drs. Grossbart and Sherman have addressed in Skin Deep: A Mind/Body Program for Healthy Skin.

While many of the hypnotic treatment protocols in this book are antiquated or incomplete, you'll still find this to be a useful reference manual to add to your resource library.

Even if you're not yet ready to deal with these more challenging issues, you'll find Parkhill's concepts and insights into regression hypnotherapy easy to read and tremendous value to the work you do.

Secret Language of Feelings

What are emotions for? The answers, gleaned from regression hypnotherapy sessions, are shared by 5-PATH developer, Cal Banyan, in this very readable book.

German New Medicine

According to the Five Biological Laws, diseases such as cancer are meaningful biological processes which can be understood in the context of our evolution.  If you are working with a physical condition, GNM can provide valuable clues about what to look for in the ISE.

Isochronic Beats

Using computer-generated, rhythmically-pulsed beats known as isochronic beats, Genus Brain Power claims to easily guide your brain into optimal frequencies for improving IQ, deep relaxation, peak mental efficiency and more.  I love the digeridoo!

7th Path Teacher?

I used this gizmo to practice 7th Path Self-Hypnosis.  Set the timer to vibrate every 5 minutes.  The gentle buzz tells you when it's time to move to the next Recognition.  While you may be able to find an app for your phone, this is a dedicated interval time.  So, you won't be distracted by notifications or calls when you're trying to go zonal.  Clips to your sleeve or collar.

Thieves Essential Oil

Thieves gets it's name from four thieves in France who protected themselves with cloves, rosemary and other aromatics while robbing plague victims.  This special blend of essential oils smells heavenly.  Diffuse it in your office to neutralize any airborne bacteria or viruses! Young Living is the gold standard but Marseille's Remedy is a close second at half the price!

Provocative Therapy

This is the book that inspired Provocative EFT.  It has been called "the funniest book ever written in the clinical field" by students and professionals alike.  Many of them also describe it as "the clearest book ever written about psychotherapy."

Royalty Free Music

Royalty free music is music that you can legally use for commercial purposes without having to pay any ongoing fees. Royalty free music costs more than normal music, but the price includes a one-time license fee that allows you to use the music to create products and services that earn you money, for example, hypnosis & meditation recordings, YouTube videos or software applications. You can also play royalty free music at your place of business without having to pay any performing rights fees.

Borderline Personality

This is one of the first classic references for borderline personality disorder.

The Artist's Way

This is not a book about writing.  It's a 13-week self-healing program that you can do yourself.  You can also assign it as homework to clients.  It works!

Hailed as a classic in the field of regression-to-cause therapeutic hypnosis, Dave Elman's major work presents an amazingly effective tool in a wide range of therapies.

The Body Bears the Burden

Using the clinical model of whiplash syndrome, Dr. Robert Scaer provides valuable information that can help you to better understand traumatic memory.

The 5 Love Languages

This is THE book on relationship and identifying unmet needs.  Read it.  Recommend it to your clients.

Your Body is Your Subconscious Mind

This audio recording of a talk given psychoneuroimmunologist, Dr. Candace Pert provides insight into how emotions literally transform the body and create our health.

Scattered Minds

A must-read for regression hypnotherapists.  Gabor Mate supports the idea that our environment in childhood, and particularly our relationship with primary caregivers, is at the root of ADD/ADHD.

In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts

This is THE book on addiction.  Gabor Mate is an MD who worked on the East Side of Vancouver with drug addicts and sex-trade workers.  He is an advocate of compassionate care and understands the roots of addiction lie in unresolved trauma.

Beyond Victim Consciousness

Lynn Forrest describes how most of us move in and out of "victim consciousness" and provides a set of well-defined tools or "Guiding Principles" which can be used to break free of this limiting mindset.

Paradox & Healing

This is the book that introduced me to the concept of "myoclonic shaking" back in the early 1990's.  In their studies of chronic illness and pain treatment with acupuncture, Drs. Greenwood and Nunn discovered that regression happens spontaneously when the body reaches "ignition."

Waking the Tiger

Clients are coming to you with unresolved trauma from the past. What many people fail to understand is that seemingly ordinary experiences, especially in childhood, can be the source of trauma.  Peter Levine is the developer of clinical methodology called Somatic Experiencing.

Why Am I Sick?

Want to know why cancer develops?  How chronic diseases are caused?  How allergies start?  Why our beliefs about bacteria and viruses are flawed? Richard Flook explains without all the medical mumbo-jumbo.  This book offers hope to those who are suffering with persistent symptoms by revealing how the body does not make mistakes.

Transforming Therapy

Gil Boyne was an American pioneer in modern hypnotherapy who was mentored by Ormond McGill.  Over the course of more than 55 years he trained thousands of hypnotherapists including Randal Churchill and Charles Tebbetts.  This book contains transcripts of sessions (including regression sessions) with students.

Mindbody Prescription

Dr. John Sarno reveals how many painful conditions, including most neck and back pain, migraine, repetitive stress injuries, whiplash and tendonitis, are rooted in repressed emotions.  He shows how they can be successfully treated by educating the client.

Analytical Hypnotherapy

Dr. A. E. Barnett hypnothesized that many issues have their origins in the birthing experience.  In this textbook, shares much wisdom and experience on how to resolve birth trauma as well as the use of ideomotor signalling during regression sessions.  Includes transcripts of sessions with clients.

Ego States

This book was a ground-breaker.  Based on studies conducted by John and Helen Watkins at Stanford University, this book links normal personality functioning with it's extremes such as Dissociative Identity Disorder.  The therapy integrates psychoanalytic practice and techniques.

I'm OK - You're OK

I was drawn to Transactional Analysis shortly after graduating from high school.  But it wasn't until a decade after being in practice as a regression hypnotherapist that I discovered how relevant it is to the work we do.  Of particular interest is the chapter on developmental phases of childhood.

The Satir Model

Virginia Satir's approach to therapy was about human dignity and strength.  She developed many therapeutic tools that are relevant to hypnotherapy including sculpting, survival stances, metaphors, Parts Part and Family Reconstruction.  The section on Parts Therapy is a must-read.  An easy read, too!

Ego State Therapy

According to Gordon Emmerson, working directly with the ego state that needs assistance provides the shortest distance between the goal and the solution. The practical techniques described in this book can help you to locate ego states that are in emotional distress and help you to facilitate expression, release and empowerment.

Making Sense of Suffering

Konrad Stettbacher explains both the theory and the practical details of a 4-step program designed to nurture the repressed "hurt child".  Of particular interest is how children perceive and process information at different ages.  Also, the cycle of suffering is spot-on!

Reclaiming Your Life

Jean Jenson believes that many adult relationship problems can be traced back to childhood coping mechanisms.  Duh.  She offers a clearly-outlined inventory and step-by-step grief process as a self-healing process for the lay reader.  Her theory of regression therapy includes illustrative case studies from her practice.

The Healing Code

It all comes down to stress.  You'll find gobs of useful information in this book to support you in educating folks about how the Mind works.  Use it to customize your educational pre-talk for each individual client, classes and presentations.  Love this book!

Sound Sleep Sound Mind

I love this book!  Dr. Barry Krakow gets it!  This is the first book of it's kind to focus on the causes of sleep problems including physical, mental and emotional.  Over 100 million Americans are suffering from poor quality sleep.  Whether you realize it or not, these folks are showing up in your office! Sleep deprivation can a major contributor to many of the problems you work with! Krakow's 7 Steps of Sleep Dynamic Therapy can help you to be more effective at helping your clients.

Healing Dimensions

Brent Baum's discoveries in the field of Somatic and Energy Psychology provide help in resolving the multi-dimensional impact of addiction, abuse and trauma on the psyche.  The first half of the book focuses on strategies for resolving memory-based constraints of trauma, pain, abuse and addiction.  The second half of the book focuses on the spiritual impact of trauma and resulting internal fragmentation.

Growing Yourself Back Up

I love this so much I bought the book and the audio!  John Lee is a down-to-earth teacher and leader in the field of co-dependency/addiction.  His view on how regression happens is highly-relatable.  (We call it "triggered.")  Lee offers practical strategies for conquering childlike feelings of powerlessness that are almost always rooted in regression. A must read!

Unlocking the Emotional Brain - Bruce Ecker

If you only read one book this year, this is the one!  I have destroyed my copy with dog-eared pages, notes in the margins, and so many underlined sections that it's barely readable!  The subtitle says all - Unlocking Symptoms at Their Roots Using Memory Reconsolidation.  This is what we do, folks!  Read it!  Read it, again!  You're welcome!

Why We Sleep

Matthew Walker makes the study of sleep and dreams juicy stuff!  Packed with tons of research and studies into brain function and how sleep impacts us physically, mentally and emotionally, this book will satisfy you science-buffs.  For the rest of us, this book is an easy-read with lots of useful information that's applicable to the practice of hypnotherapy.  Enjoy!
