The intake process marks the beginning of the healing process. So before you get started you need to take care of the 3 P’s of Payment, Paperwork, and Privacy.
Take care of privacy. Almost everyone is packing a cell phone and it’s very easy to forget that it’s even there. Make sure your client turns their phone off before you start talking about their problem.
Even if it’s set to vibrate, it’s a distraction. You want the client’s full attention for the whole session. So make sure you won’t be disturbed during the session by having them turn off their phone.
Process payment. Get the money out of the way before you dive into the client’s issue. That way you won’t have to ask for payment after the session.
When a person emerges from hypnosis they’re still processing what happened in the session. Thoughts and feelings and insights can continue to bubble up to the surface following a session. This is a process you want to encourage. If you take care of the payment before you get started, you won’t have to interrupt the client’s process. This can help you to get a deeper level of healing.
Take care of any paperwork you need before you begin the intake. For example, if you need a doctor’s referral make sure you collect that before you get started. And make sure that you have a signed release-form before you begin the hypnosis.
I send out a Client Contact Form to clients to fill out before their first session. So when the client comes in for their first session, that’s the first thing I ask for. The information they give me in the Contact Form acts as a natural segue into the intake process. Once you have taken care of the 3 P’s of payment, paperwork, and privacy, you’re ready to turn your full attention to the client’s problem. This officially marks the beginning of the healing process.
