If you’re a hypnosis practitioner, you were probably taught to educate your clients before guiding them into hypnosis. It just makes your job easier.
So, you already know how to educate them about how the Mind works and how hypnosis works. But regression hypnotherapy is a deeper technique. It’s more involved.
What if you had an educational pre-talk that was specifically designed to prepare your clients for regression-to-cause hypnosis?
Regression hypnosis is a deeper technique.
During your pre-talk you need to delve deeper into the concepts that are relevant to the healing process. And you need to do that in a way that is relevant to the client’s issue.
For example, hypnosis gives us access to the Subconscious level of Mind. So, the client needs to understand how the Mind works and how hypnosis works.
But you also need the client to be a willing participant in their own healing. So, you need to educate them about how you will work together to achieve their goal.
A great place to begin educating the client is by introducing a Mind Model that shows them that there’s nothing wrong with them.
How the Mind Works
People will come to you thinking they’re broken. You can use your Mind Model to show them why they’re not broken.
The client needs to realize that the Subconscious Mind is not the enemy. It wants the same things they want – to be healthy, and happy, and enjoy a long and prosperous life.
It’s just that, sometimes, it can act in ways we don’t like. It’s just how the Mind works. And their Subconscious Mind is doing exactly what it was designed to do. So, it’s not out to get them.
We may not yet understand why their Subconscious Mind needs to generate those uncomfortable symptoms, but you can invite the client to be curious about why that might be. The understanding is that all will be revealed through the process.
There are a lot of benefits to doing this …
1. The healing is already underway.
There’s been this “rift” between their Conscious Mind and their Subconscious Mind. Helping the client to see that it’s not their fault, and that there’s nothing wrong with them, allows some self-acceptance to happen. That’s healing.
2. Reduce resistance.
If you can get your clients feeling curious about what “might be revealed”, they won’t be so worried about “what might happen.” This brings down the fear, reducing the resistance to “going there.”
It also means that they’ll be much more willing to follow your instructions. And you need them to follow your instructions if you want to get to the root of the problem.
3. Set aside the Conscious Mind.
If the client is willing to let the answers be revealed through the process, they’ll be less likely to be thinking, and analyzing, and trying to figure it all out. That’s Conscious Mind activity. And you want that out of the way because the Conscious Mind can block the process.
How Hypnosis Works
You also need to educate the client about how hypnosis works because there are common fears and misconceptions about hypnosis. For regression hypnosis, you need to demystify the process.
Regression hypnosis is a self-empowerment, self-healing process. So, you need to get rid of magical thinking. That might not be a problem with direct suggestion work. But for therapeutic hypnosis, the client needs to understand where the Power’s at.
It’s not a special Power that you possess. It’s a Power that exists within them. They already have it. You can help them gain access to this Power. But you can’t do it for them.
The client really needs to get this. Hypnotherapy is not a passive process. And to be successful, you need your clients to be prepared to do the work necessary to get the results they’re after.
How You Work Together
Your clients need to know what’s required of them. They need to know how to participate so that they won’t try to run the show. And they need to be prepared to allow uncomfortable thoughts and feelings to come to awareness because they’re a part of the process.
Clients need to be willing to disclose painful or shameful information as it is being revealed through the process because that’s where the healing lies.
Having a well-crafted educational program can put an end to the frustration of clients who aren’t willing to go where you want them to go. And it can get RID of the fear that sends you running back to old-familiar surface techniques that just won’t get the job done.
Nice, right?
