Most hypnosis schools teach little to nothing about business.  They only teach the practice side of things.  You learn inductions, deepeners and therapeutic techniques.  But very little about how to make a living doing those things.  

This just perpetuates the Field of Dreams myth that says “Build it and they will come.”  They won’t.  If all you do is hang up your certificate and hang out your shingle, you won’t be in business very long.  

If you want to grow your hypnotherapy practice, you need to learn how to market yourself and your services. If you work for yourself you are also a business owner.  It’s up to you to take care of your business.

That includes marketing.

Most therapists don’t like the idea of marketing. It makes us feel uncomfortable.  And it’s not something that most of us signed up for.  We just wanted to help people.

Going out and promoting probably doesn’t feel authentic or true for you.  It feels like selling.  And we’re not sales people.   We’re healers, for gawdsake!

Marketing makes us feel uncomfortable.

If you don’t have a background in business, you’re bound to make mistakes.  That can get costly. And if you’re just starting out, you probably don’t have a lot of money to throw at marketing strategies that don’t work.

Is it any wonder that marketing makes us uncomfortable?  

And what do people do when they feel uncomfortable? They avoid, of course. Human beings are hardwired to seek pleasure and avoid pain.  So, it’s only natural to want to avoid things we don’t like.  That includes promoting your healing practice.  

But if you don’t promote, you won’t get clients.  

You need clients to make a difference in the world.

You need clients to make a living.  

If you truly want to make a difference in people’s lives, you need to get really good at what you do.

The one thing that will help you to do that is hands-on experience. Working with real clients, who are struggling with real problems, will help you to grow your knowledge and your skill more than any classroom ever could. 

The question is – how do you get clients?

If you’re starting out, you don’t want to make promises that you can’t keep. As a result, you probably don’t feel confident about going out and promoting yourself and your services.  

You don’t need MORE clients.  You need clients you can be successful with.  That’s what will help you to grow your confidence and your skill so that you can grow a referral-based business.
