A big mistake you see a lot of healing practitioners making is menu marketing. They list a menu of issues that hypnosis can help with. So, their website has a menu of issues, their business card has a menu of issues, their brochure has a menu of issues.
That’s what I did. But it’s a mistake.
When you’re just starting out, it seems like a good way to attract new clients. The idea is to cast a wide net. You’re fishing for clients. So, the more lines you have in the water, the better your chances of catching one will be.
You’re just as likely to catch a lot of garbage.
When you’re just starting out you don’t need to deal with a lot of garbage. What you need are some successes. So, you need to attract clients that you can be successful with.
If you’re just starting out, you lack experience. You don’t have experience working with every problem on the list of issues that hypnosis can help with. Just because a problem can be resolved with hypnosis, doesn’t mean that you should be taking it on.
Some of those issues require considerable skill and experience. If you try to take on issues before you’re ready, you’ll end up with problems in your sessions that you don’t need.
You need to grow your confidence.
Getting in over your head won’t help you to do that.
The main problem with menu-marketing is that it isn’t specific enough. Menu-marketing doesn’t grab a person’s attention because it doesn’t speak to anyone in particular. To attract clients, you need to get their attention.
This is the sole purpose of your marketing. It’s to grab a person’s attention so that they will pick up the phone and call you. Then, if it seems like they’re a good fit for you, that’s the time to book them in for their first session.
So that’s it.
Menu-marketing isn’t an effective strategy for getting more clients. It doesn’t speak to anyone in particular. And you need clients who are the right fit for you.
They need to be a match for your level of knowledge, skill and experience. These are the clients who will give you your best chance to successfully deliver on your promise of results. That’s what people pay for - results.
